Vancouver Island, British Columbia
On one impossibly brilliant mid-summer’s eve, several maternal groups of resident orcas met up on the lee side of northern Vancouver Island. The orcas treated the event as a reunion, spending the next hours breaching, spy-hopping and slapping their flukes at the pure joy of seeing family again. As the sun lay low in the sky, the groups separated with these orcas swimming off in to the sunset. It was a truly magical, humbling experience. 0346.
