Spring is Springing

Driving the length of the Tetons today, the immutable stirrings of spring were about, perhaps like a youngster grudgingly waking for school: Songbirds were flitting about, most of the streams and rivers have escaped their icy sheath and are beginning to flow and animals are beginning to move about again. A few bison have returned to Elk Ranch Flats, moose in the Gros Ventre area seem to know they have survived another brutal winter and foxes are scurrying about with less regard for saving every essential calorie. The afternoon sun was warm on my face and my sorels seemed a bit much. The first day of daylight savings time saw us waiting well in to the evening for the Lower Gros Ventre wolves to put in an appearance. While the wolves kept to themselves we were privileged to spend several hours with a little red fox hunting in the fields south of Warm Spring.
